The Florida Everglades

A lot of this is down to one of the most famous residents and that is the American Alligator. Take an airboat ride throughout this stunning unique environment as you keep your eyes peeled for some of the amazing creatures. Or you can just head to one of the popular animal handling shows and see these beasts up close and personal.

This is one of the most popular space centres in the world and is the home to the American space program. This place is a Mecca for anyone interested in man’s ascent to the heavens. There are more than enough things to see and do to keep everyone interested for the entire day. From handling moon rock to seeing the Saturn V rocket through to being able to see what the Space Shuttle was actually like you will have an uplifting time.

Homosassa State Park

This park is not only the home to some amazing scenes of natural beauty but has a few surprises along the way. One of the most popular of these is manatees. These are most often seen in winter and are said to be the inspiration for the mermaid myths. Though these are not the only animals you will spot as you wind your way along the river. Crocodiles, Alligators, Otters, Flamingos and even a hippo all make their home here.

You can just laze on the beach until the sun goes down and then you can watch the baby turtles hatch and make their way into the ocean to start their life. This is a magical experience that is not to be missed.

Blue Springs State Park

This is another great place to get up close and personal with nature. The park is the home to manatees as well. One of the best things to do is to spend the day on a kayaking trip around the biggest spring in St. Johns River. Then you can explore Hontoon Island. You can also spot bald eagles, ospreys and wild hogs. You can even go on a walking trail and explore a Native American shell mound.

St. Augustine

If you are a fan of all things pirate then this ancient town is for you.
